Distribution Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, this key member of management supports the company in achieving service and business goals by providing leadership and management direction to the people and daily activities of our distribution center.  Accountable for the efficient flow of merchandise from the point of receiving replenishment product from mills to the shipment of daily customer orders.  Responsible for hiring, training, developing and motivating crew members;  scheduling of daily hours, delegating work assignments and monitoring individual and group performance to ensure high level of productivity and order accuracy. Responsible for reviewing all distribution processes and procedures in order to continuously improve efficiency.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Significant time is required to be spent on work floor supporting and motivating employees in all functions while promoting continuous process improvements.
  • Guarantee all orders are processed and shipped timely and accurately each day.
  • Work closely with the customer service and credit departments to achieve 100% customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure that all payroll hours are scheduled efficiently to ensure proper processing order flow with the least amount of labor hours possible.
  • Report/update hiring needs in advance to Human Resources to maintain required staffing levels based on sales forecasts; build a strong, talented team through active participation in employee selection.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to assistant managers and crew members; Responsible to coach, counsel and initiate recommendations on performance to achieve the required productivity and accuracy standards; providing performance feedback through informal communications, formal performance reviews, goal-setting, and necessary corrective actions.
  • Ensure scheduled replenishment shipments are received and stocked timely and accurately and that picking locations are consistently replenished with product.  
  • Oversee department spending and adherence to operational budgets. Monitor inventory of consumable supplies (boxes, packaging materials, invoice paper, etc.) and initiate purchases for supplies and equipment within budgeted amounts.
  • Plan, implement, and manage warehouse and logistics operations.
  • Work with upper management team as required for company planning and strategy.

REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years management experience in a distribution and/or warehouse operation
  • BS or BA  Degree
  • Experience managing a seasonal and/or part-time work force
  • Have delivered results with a strong innovative spirit
  • Knowledge of inventory management and warehouse management systems
